Why PayPal?
PayPal makes online credit card purchases safer for all involved
In almost paradoxical fashion, the PayPal service has been resisted by some for years, on the basis that it is 'not a 'real' merchant account', and therefore somehow less professional. However, nothing could be further from the truth in today's online fraudulent reality. In fact, PayPal is arguably the world's best service for protecting both seller and customer, and thus also arguably the most professional means of transacting online.
Online credit card fraud has reached and continues to surpass all-time record highs. When you type your credit card number into the Web, there's always a chance that it could be harvested for illegal use — by a rogue staff member at the organisation involved, for one example, or by malicious software on either your or their system. By using a registered PayPal account for payment, your credit card details are never sent to anyone. Only PayPal stores the details on their high grade secure systems.
On the merchant side of things
At our end of the transaction process, PayPal takes care of address verification and many other anti-fraud measures to help prevent various horrors such as people getting away with free goods (steeling) by using a stolen card or even simply reversing the charge, to name but two examples. Also, we are not required to store credit card information in an expensive security-audited, encrypted database — a saving passed on to our customers.
Convenience
Best of all, PayPal is simply more convenient! You need only remember your existing email address, as registered with PayPal, and a single password to authorise any online payment where PayPal is accepted. No more typing out that long 16-digit number, expiry date, CVS code, making sure you use credit company matching addresses and phone numbers, and all that comes with that.
PayPal subscriptions (automatic payments) are in your control
PayPal subscriptions allow you to pay your NZ Hosting monthly account automatically, should you choose. The subscription service is controlled by PayPal, solely under your authority. Merchants are not able to simply debit funds without your permission, as can be done when you've given them your credit card details. (We are able to cancel subscriptions in certain circumstances, but we can never create them.)
OK. Fine. But I Just Don't Like PayPal, for whatever reason
That's OK.
PayPal does not force you to register with them in order to pay your NZ Hosting account by credit card. Simply click the appropriate link on the PayPal payment page and you can enter your data manually in the good ol' fashioned way. No problem.
